Kate Farrell
“Finding courage and embracing uncertainty”
As a health services manager, Kate was aware of the impact chronic “dis-ease” has on the lives of others. It wasn’t until she found herself on the other side of the hospital bed as a patient that she truly experienced the life changing impact living with a chronic health condition can have. A few months following a back-injury, Kate experienced numbness, burning sensations and pins and needles on the left side of her body. Intuitively, this young woman knew these alarming symptoms required further investigation and pursued this until she arrived at a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis – the most common chronic neurological disease of young Australian’s.
Initially, Kate understandably experienced denial, anger and grief while coming to terms with the sudden change in direction her life was taking. Through this rough transition, this amazing young woman felt she experienced an “awakening” with a burning desire to help others in the same or similar situations to herself.
What Kate did next was rest, repair and renew. This allowed this forward thinker to find a new perspective and source a new direction. Now a life coach and speaker, Kate draws upon her training and personal experiences to inspire others living with health conditions and experiencing challenging transitions to embrace a positive mindset and see obstacles as opportunities.
The MS Ambassador Program warmly welcomes this delightful young woman to our team, and highly recommends her as a speaker. Kate is both passionate about raising awareness for MS and would be happy to share with you her story of embracing a holistic lifestyle and developing the courage to take control of her life.
