Minding your mind
Minding your mindArticle from October 2019 edition of Intouch eNewsletter

Last week we marked World Mental Health Day, an important day which encourages global mental health education, awareness and advocacy. The day is an initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health to raise public awareness of mental health issues worldwide and happens every year.

The 2019 Australian World Mental Health Day campaign challenges perceptions about mental illness all over the country and encourages us to look at mental health without stigma.

This day is really important for us in the MS community because we know that living with a chronic condition can take a toll on things like sleep, mood and social inclusion – all important pieces in the puzzle which makes up our mental health.

Some readers will also know that depression, sleeplessness and anxiety are common symptoms of multiple sclerosis, so for us, talking about mental health is always a priority.

If you’re interested in finding out more about how multiple sclerosis can affect your mental health, you can take a look at some of our online tools.

If you’d like to chat to someone about how you’re feeling, we’re all ears. You can give us a call on 1800 042 138 from Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm.

Remember, if you need some extra support outside of those hours (or if you think you might need some specialised help) you can reach out to Lifeline on 13 11 44 at any time.
