Remembering Zona Tripp, OAM

“After living through my husband's MS for 33 years, I have been determined in my small way to do all I can to raise funds for research into this terrible disease that effects so many young people in their prime. I do what I can, hoping that a cure will be found.” – Zona Tripp, OAM
ZonaPhilanthropist and advocate for people living with MS, Zona Tripp, left an impressive mark on the MS Community.
Zona Tripp’s husband, Dr Jeffrey Tripp, was diagnosed with MS at just 35 years of age. By the time he was 50, he was in a wheelchair and Zona became his full-time carer.  Gratitude for the services and support they received from the MS Society, as we were known back then, fuelled Zona’s commitment to help others with MS.
As a token of appreciation for the MS Society and in honour of her late husband, Zona started the Dr Jeffrey Tripp Committee in 1977 to raise funds for the organisation so that people with MS might have a better life and a cure could be found.
In her 80th year, she received the John Studdy Award, celebrating 30 years of outstanding fundraising efforts for people with multiple sclerosis and in 2000, Zona was awarded an OAM in recognition of her community work in raising money for charity.
Sadly, Zona recently passed away at the age of 92. In the decades she spent tirelessly fundraising, the Dr Jeffrey Tripp Committee managed to raise over $2million in support of people with MS.
We couldn’t deliver support and services to people living with multiple sclerosis without our fundraisers, and it’s thanks to the help of Zona and the thousands of other Australians who are inspired to walk, run, cycle, swim, donate or volunteer, that we're able to help people living with MS.
Our thoughts are with Zona’s family during this time.
