MSCEC November Report
Victoria’s newly expanded Community Engagement Council, some of whom are pictured during their recent November meeting over Zoom. They’re hoping to meet in person again soon over coming months, normally based out of the Blackburn MS Nerve Centre in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
Young at heart
Victoria’s newly expanded Community Engagement Council has hit the ground running, initiating a project to support and better understand the needs of young carers.
Led by team members Eleanor Edgar and Cathy Cooper, they’ve widened their attention to see what’s working across Australia and overseas. The pair reported to their November 10 meeting on recent findings and previewed further research into how other communities and cultures support young carers.
Are you a young carer of someone with Multiple Sclerosis, or know a person who might share experiences that would support others? Contact our team via mscec.vic@gmail.com — Chair Alison Reece.
Hello, farewell
In other news from the Victorian team, four new members have brought a wide variety of experiences and skills to the Melbourne-based Council:
- Cathy Cooper — experienced leader in Human Resources management
- Dr Lisa Grech — psychologist and Senior Research Fellow
- Casey Garland — project controller engaged with major construction projects
- Paul Gallagher — published author, editor and journalist
Respected journalist, medical writer and long-time Council member L.E. Ohman attended her last meeting with the team in November. She will, however, stay engaged with the Council’s work via an advisory representative panel.
