Vale Dean Jones
Our organisation wishes to extend its condolences to the family and friends of cricket great Dean Jones, who passed away on Thursday, 24 September after suffering a heart attack in India. He was 59.
Dean is remembered as one of cricket’s most entertaining figures and he also generously supported many charities including Multiple Sclerosis Limited (MSL).
Dean played 52 Test matches for Australia and scored 11 centuries, including a memorable double century in the historic 1986 tied Test Match in Madras. In the one-day format, Dean represented the green and gold in 164 games, his cavalier approach established Dean as one of the all-time greatest one day batsman.
Dean’s contribution to the MS community is much appreciated and will be always remembered.
Most memorable is the 2013 MS Ashes Trek, a 10 day fundraising event travelling from Melbourne to Sydney.
Dean, the Trek Ambassador, was accompanied by Allan Border, Sir Ian Botham and a plethora of past and present cricketers supporting dinners, lunches, public events and kids cricket clinics.
Following an exhausting 10 days the MS Ashes Trek culminated with a Dinner at the Sydney Cricket Grounds attended by former Australian Prime Minister, the Honourable John Howard OM, AC.
Dean’s energy and commitment to creating awareness about MS and to fundraise was infectious.
Dean will be missed, our thoughts are with Dean’s wife, Jane, and his daughters, Phoebe and Isabella.
