Stories from National Volunteer Week
21 - 27 May 2018

National Volunteer Week 2018

From 21–27 May 2018, thousands of events were held across the country to say thank you to the 6 million Australians who volunteer their time. MS held Volunteer Recognition events in each state to thank the incredible people who support the MS community for their contribution.

Here are just some of the stories from those celebrations:

Chatswood NSW

Last month, a Morning Tea was held in Chatswood to celebrate National Volunteer Week and give thanks to MS volunteers. Most of the volunteers pictured here are from the Community Visitors Scheme who give up their time every fortnight to provide companionship to those who are isolated. We also had two volunteers who fundraised at the Mega Swim and Gong ride which helps those living with multiple sclerosis. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for all the amazing work you do!

Blackburn VIC

A packed house at our Volunteer Thank You Morning Tea! On 24 May MS celebrated National Volunteer Week 2018 with many of the extraordinary volunteers and to recognise their achievements in the MS community. It was a fantastic morning as stories were shared, awards handed out, poems read as well as a magician being on hand to add even more magic to the morning.

To all our volunteers, thank you for everything that you have done and continue to do!

West Gippsland VIC

A BIG thank you to the wonderful CVS Volunteers who attended the West Gippsland National Volunteer Week catch-up session at the Saltbush Café in Morwell last Tuesday. It was so lovely to see their smiling faces and have the opportunity to thank them for the wonderful work they do.

East Gippsland VIC

During National Volunteer Week, Multiple Sclerosis Limited held a celebration in Bairnsdale to celebrate the contribution of more than 15 volunteers in the East Gippsland region.  “It never ceases to amaze me how generous our volunteers are and their ongoing dedication to volunteering.  If I add up the hours in total it will in the thousands” said Pam Gottschalk, East Gippsland MS Community Visitors Scheme Coordinator. The local event, was a lovely afternoon tea spread, held at Hendo’s Café in Bairnsdale with volunteers thoroughly enjoyed the  gathering, chatting amongst themselves, sharing their stories and laughter. Thank you to our amazing East Gippsland volunteers.
