Leissa's story
“My first goal was to get back into work.”
Leissa is a person living with multiple sclerosis, who has always enjoyed a demanding career.
Leissa says she never wakes up feeling refreshed, alive and ready to jump out of bed. Sometimes she feels like she’s walking through molasses, and on hot days she feels like her brain is full of cotton wool.
Most of Leissa’s symptoms are invisible.
For some time, Leissa had to stop working. When Leissa joined the NDIS, her initial goal was to go back to work. And she achieved it!
Now Leissa’s goal is to stay in work and go from three to four days a week; and to get back into an active lifestyle by relearning to ride a bike.
Leissa’s MS Consultant, Michelle, was there to support her each step of the way. The NDIS provided Leissa with a cleaner, who also helps with meal preparation, as well as other supports.
“I’m starting to feel that life is valuable again. The NDIS has made me feel more validated as a person — which wasn’t there before,” said Leissa.
