Rosa's story
“My goals are to travel to see my family overseas, and to stay at home with my husband.”
Rosa is a wife, mother and grandmother, who is living with multiple sclerosis. Rosa had symptoms for about 30 years before she was diagnosed with the disease.
Rosa used to run the administration for the police department, but this is no longer possible with the problems she experiences with memory and. Rosa also has stiffness and muscle spasticity in her leg — which makes it tricky to get around and take care of housework.
Rosa’s goal was to travel overseas and to stay in her own home near her family. Thanks to the NDIS and Rosa’s MS Consultant Michelle, she’s been able to do both!
Rosa now has a wheelchair for long distances and a frame for everyday use. “The wheelchair helps me go on long distance holidays, which I couldn’t do before,” says Rosa.
The NDIS modified Rosa’s shower, and provided a cleaner, a gardener and a carer to assist with community access. Rosa says, “Now I can stay in my own home! I have everything I want in my house.”
Before the NDIS, Rosa’s husband Frank took on a lot of the responsibilities to run the household — despite having his own health issues. Having the support of MS and the NDIS has changed his life. “Without any help — my life was much worse than it is now”, says Frank.
